05/10/2023

His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein, Lord Chamberlain and President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), met today at HCD’s headquarters with United States Ambassador to Jordan, Yael Lambert.

During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed between HCD and U.S. government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its implemented projects in Jordan.

His Highness briefed the Ambassador on the status of disability in Jordan, the achievements being made, and the challenges impeding the full inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in various sectors.

During the meeting, His Highness stressed HCD’s pride in the strong and continued partnership with U.S. government, noting HCD’s keenness to strengthen this relationship to benefit from the United States’ longstanding expertise in the field of disability -- particularly  the American Disabilities Act (ADA), which is considered a pioneer in strengthening the human rights approach in the field of disability.

U.S. Ambassador Yael Lempert expressed her appreciation for HCD’s efforts to promote awareness of disability rights in Jordan, and her desire to maintain the  partnership between HCD and the Embassy through the USAID.  She further emphasized that she will continue to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in Jordan.

Dr. Muhannad Alazzeh, HCD’s Secretary-General, presented a summary on the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the strategies and plans stemming from the said law, as well as the status of its implementation, along with what has been accomplished so far.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Amman and HCD.
