Accessible Buildings Award
Based on the Higher Council’s endeavor to enhance the exercise of their rights by persons with disabilities, including their right to access public buildings and facilities and obtain the services they provide with ease, privacy, and independence, the Council announced the launch of an annual award for accessible buildings in Jordan during its first session of 2023. This award will be given to buildings that provide accessibility; ramps, elevators, restrooms, wide entrances and exits, floor indicators, websites, data and information in accessible formats, and facilitation arrangements (Braille signs), as well as assistive technology and sign language interpretations as needed in order to communicate with those with disabilities. This is in accordance with the updated building requirements code for persons with disabilities issued in 2018.
This award includes three levels for the winning buildings: gold, silver, and bronze. It is granted to government, private, and volunteer buildings (non-profit organizations and associations) based in Jordan, in accordance with the standards and weights set by the Council based on the code and best practices. A specialized and neutral committee studies applications for the award and verifies their eligibility. The conditions are met, the attached documents are evaluated, and the participating buildings are inspected on the ground. Then the winners are announced and the award are handed over to them during a celebration organized annually by the Council.
