Including an Item on Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities within the Budget of the Irbid Governorate Council


The Secretary General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Muhannad Al-Azzeh, met on Sunday with the Governor of Irbid, Radwan Al-Atoum. They discussed means of cooperation to include a budget in the Governorate Council to ensure the implementation and application of the provisions of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. (20) of 2017.


They also discussed the necessary financial allocations within the budget of the Governorate Council to carry out its tasks and obligations stemming from this law. They touched on the transfer of technical expertise of those concerned in the execution of the law in the Governorate Council, which will be done through including members from the Executive Council of the Governorate in the

Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In the meeting, Al-Azzeh stressed the importance of adopting a participatory approach among the various stakeholders to implement the provisions and items of the new law, especially regarding the ten-year plan for the treatment of existing buildings or changing them completely.


The Governor of Irbid praised the way the Council is assuming its role in the framework of the law on the rights of persons with disabilities and its strategic plan for the next stage based on the participatory approach among the concerned parties to improve the services offered to persons with disabilities and to enable them to exercise their rights on an equal basis with other segments of society.


It is noteworthy that the Governorate’s implementation plan for the coming years includes building new schools in addition to the maintenance of a number of existing ones. The plan is also to construct a comprehensive development center in the Mashar’eh area and the Manar Center in the Qasbeh District to provide services to persons with disabilities.
